Saturday afternoon Lake Eola was a beautiful sight. Approximately ten thousand women, men and children, marched around the lake, arm in arm, each with her own agenda and reason for attending the Rally for Women. The signs show a plethora of issues being voiced and the speakers did a great job charging everyone up (as if we needed charging). Commissioner Patty Sheehan proclaimed January 21, 2017, “Women’s Call to Action Day” in the City of Orlando, along with representatives of Planned Parenthood; the Orange County Disability Advisory Board; and Linda Chapin, former Mayor of Orange County, who encouraged women to run for office. Hanna Battla, a senior from Olympia High School, wants to get involved in politics and, after hearing her speak, one can only hope she does.
The new President’s disturbing comments about women, people suffering from disabilities, gay and lesbian rights, not to mention the current congress’ plans to wreck the country’s health plans, defund desperately needed health agencies, and send us back to the Victorian era, lit a fire in the hearts and minds of women of all races. It was palpable in the spirit of the march.

Even from The Villages!
On last night’s SNL, actor, writer, comedian Aziz Ansari stated, “I know there are a lot of people that are worried now. This is a weird time. If you’re excited about Trump, great. He’s president. Let’s hope he does a great job. If you’re scared about Trump and you’re very worried, you’re going to be OK, too. Because if you look at our history, change doesn’t come from presidents. Change comes from large groups of angry people. And if day one is any indication, you are part of the largest group of angry people I have ever seen.”
And, by the way, it might make you feel superior calling us your ridiculous names…libtards, crybabies…but do not call us snowflakes. We will not melt and evaporate when the heat is on. We will be holding legislators’ feet to the fire, calling out every lie we hear and every misdeed we see. You ain’t seen nothin yet!
